science, false science and (the practice of) spirituality
“if we can we recognize a false science by its structure of spirituality (which is self-evident; every scientist knows this), we should not forget that in those forms of knowledge that are not exactly sciences, and which we should not seek to assimilate to the structure of science, there is again the strong and clear presence of at least certain elements, certain requirements of spirituality” (Foucault, 2005, 29).
These “forms of knowledge” are Marxism and Psycholanalysis; what about natural science and engineering? what kind of bricoleur is the engineer? what kind of spiritual requirement does natural science have if the Cartesian “moment” is not a decisive break and if the 17th C still poses a question of the relation of conditions of spirituality and the problem of the development of truth and method (F, 2005, 27), if the philosophy of 19th C is testament to the activity of knowing as a spiritual practice?
